2011 Best Of (1967-1994) Collection Available On Vinyl For the First Time; Newly Mastered For the Format In 2018 By James Guthrie & Joel Plante With Lacquers Cut By Bernie Grundman Of Grundman Mastering in L.A.
It all started in 1966, amid the psychedelic explosion then sweeping swinging London. In small, smoky clubs like the UFO and the Roadhouse, Syd Barrett, Roger Waters, Nick Mason, Rick Wright and David Gilmour galvanized the vibrant British rock scene with their extended free-form instrumentals and surreal pop songs - all performed to the accompaniment of bobbing blobs of multi-colored liquid lights. Perhaps even more than Cream and Jimi Hendrix, the quartet known as Pink Floyd were psychedelia personified.
No other group has relentlessly tinkered with electronics and all manner of special effects to push pop formats to their outer limits. At the same time they have wrestled with lyrical themes and concepts of such massive scale that their music has taken on an almost classical, operatic quality, in both sound and words. From the classic concept albums of Dark Side Of The Moon and Wish You Were Here to the progressive cult favorite, The Wall, Pink Floyd's lyrics made icons out of LSD, pigs, Power stations and brick walls while their music riddled with secret messages and wild imagery, reached mythic proportions.
Available on vinyl for the first time, the career-spanning 2011 compilation The Best of Pink Floyd: A Foot in the Door features some of the best-known album tracks from across Pink Floyd's career, 1967-1994, as well as the UK Top 10 single "See Emily Play." Newly mastered for vinyl in 2018 by longstanding Pink Floyd associate James Guthrie, with Joel Plante, and with lacquers cut by Bernie Grundman of Grundman Mastering in L.A., the 2LP version features at least one difference from the CD version. "Time" is slightly longer, with the ringing alarm clocks at the start of the track reinstated.
The original artwork, directed by the late Storm Thorgerson, has been amended by Pink Floyd Creative Director Aubrey Powell of Hipgnosis with Peter Curzon, to include alternate versions of the photographs used in the CD version. The album package comes in a gatefold outer sleeve, with two separate printed inner bags, and is pressed on heavyweight 180 gram vinyl.
